How are electromagnetic waves different from mechanical waves? How are they similar?

Frequency is how often the waves are coming (# of waves / sec). 

This is not the speed of the wave which would be how much distance the wave covers in a unit of time (usually ~340m/s for sound waves in air) 

Amplitude is the height of the wave from the center point. 

Amplitude can be measured in either direction but is not measured from peak to valley.
